A recent addition to WhatsApp is the ability to pause voice note recording.

It was launched on the app earlier this year and is proving very popular.

TikTok star and gadget genius @letsdodiz posted a video explaining how to do it this week.

And the clip already has more than 11,000 likes.

Beware of the special WhatsApp code - it could mean someone is trying to hack you

First, make sure you have updated to the latest version of WhatsApp.

You can do this through the Apple App Store on iPhone or the Google Play Store on Android.

Then close and relaunch WhatsApp to make sure you’re using the latest version.

Now open a chat – it doesn’t matter if it’s a one-to-one or group chat.

Long press the voice recording function, then pull up to lock it in “hands-free” mode.

You will now see that a pause icon has appeared at the bottom center of the screen.

You can tap it to pause recording.

It is even possible to leave the conversation and the application while keeping the recording paused.

And then you can come back to it later and continue.

This is great if you’re recording a long message but get interrupted or need more information.

Or maybe you just forgot what you wanted to say and need time to remember it.

Either way, it’s very easy to pause and come back to it – and the recipient won’t notice the difference.

The app does not report the chat when a recording has been paused.

WhatsApp also recently changed the app so you can still listen to voice notes even outside of a chat.

So if you start playing a voicemail, you can switch to another chat and it won’t pause the playback.

This is really useful if you are listening to a very long voice note, but still want to talk to other people.

This feature is live now, so it should appear if you’re using the latest version of WhatsApp.
