David Ray McGee

David Ray McGee, 74, of Van Buren, died March 23, 2022. He was born November 13, 1947 in Bastrop, LA to David O. McGee and Helen Maxine Graham McGee. David was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a doctor.

David liked to read, correct people and make sly jokes. All of her clothes were loud, and none of them matched. He loved animals and claimed he was indifferent to animals. (Often this last act was attempted while actively spoiling one creature or another.)

He was driving an old Toyota with a new audio system because he had his priorities. He used it to play Irish folk music, jazz and 1970s singer-songwriters. If there was a passenger, however, he would probably end up listening to a lecture about some obscure moment in the story instead.

He had ideas for books that he wasn’t writing. Do something that you put off. Time is limited.

He was predeceased by his father, David McGee, and a nephew, Dustin Medley.

David is survived by his mother, Helen Maxine McGee of Van Buren; one sister, Helen Medley (Ronald) of Fort Smith; one brother, Don McGee of Seattle, WA; two nieces, Angela Hayes (Jason) of Fayetteville, AR and Pamela Medley of Fort Smith; and a nephew, Brian Medley of Charlotte, NC.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 31, at Fort Smith National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 30 at Edwards Funeral Home. Services are entrusted to Edwards Funeral Home.
