CES 2022 Live Blog: Latest News & Highlights from Sony, OnePlus, Samsung (Updated)
Late last year, Tile CEO CJ Prober accused Apple of becoming an out of control monopoly with the release of AirTags, saying Apple had restricted Tile’s access to the Find My app. from Apple. This year, rival company Chipolo announced a working wallet finder. exclusively with Apple’s Find My app. The slim, dark Card Spot is designed to slip into your wallet against your bank cards. In addition to Lost Mode, it also has a new “Notify When Left Out” feature in iOS 15.
Tile does not take this news in the air. This year, he announced that Lenovo’s new Thinkpad X1 line will be available through Tile, following the 2020 announcement that HP will introduce new PC peripherals that also incorporate Tile’s object tracking technology. This begs the question: what more do you need, your wallet or your phone? And do you need to find your stuff in this reality, or in an augmented reality? Only time will tell.Adrienne So
Withings plans a full body scan
When I first tested the Amazon Halo, a fitness tracker that uses digital whole body analyzes to determine your body fat percentage, the concept sounded alarming. However, we can all see each other in much more detail sooner than you might think. Withings makes some of our favorite health care gear that is stylish and easy to use. At CES 2022, he unveiled the Body Scan, an attractive piece of tempered glass that monitors biomarkers like your heart rate, vascular health, and (ahem) “segmental body composition.”
Body Scan is a glass platform containing four weight sensors and 14 ITO electrodes, and a handle with four stainless steel electrodes. The battery lasts for one year per charge and displays your stats on a high-resolution 3.2-inch LCD color screen. In addition to an accurate, granular fat and water analysis of all your favorite limbs, the Body Scan also measures your sweat gland function to see if your nerves are functioning properly, as well as heart health. If you want one soon, it may take a while.
Withings stands out among healthcare companies for seeking clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration, instead of just selling equipment covered by disclaimers. If you are planning to have a full body scanner, it might as well come from a company you can trust that makes equipment that looks good. –Adrienne So
OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display technology enables perfect black levels; Since each pixel on the screen acts as its own backlight, these pixels do not emit any light when exhibiting a black tone. That’s why a growing number of high-end televisions and cellphones are sporting these advanced screens every year. One thing I’ve been waiting for are tiny super low power OLED displays for portable devices and other devices. Scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam, and Plasma Technology FEP did them successfully.
These tiny new OLED displays could usher in a whole new look for consumer electronics in the future, with buttons, instructions, and various other more interactive features that lack the backlight associated with current displays of this size. As I write these lines, I am looking at an audio mixer that has a traditional LED-backlit display, knowing how much this technology could make it look sharper when the lights go out. Hoping for commercial applications soon. –Parker Room
A backpack that you can’t lose
Apple’s “Find My iPhone” feature has been around for some time, helping owners locate misplaced or stolen phones using GPS to show their location. Targus brings technology to its new Cypress Hero backpack. You can now use the Find My app to locate the exact location of the backpack and if you lose your iPhone you can also press a button inside the backpack to ping it.
